Can you tell that he is commanding attention? Growing more and more into a leadership role.

That was a fun opening day, huh? The Heat absolutely dominated the Mavs. The Bulls came back to beat the Lake show. A ho hum Thunder win over Howard’s Magic. A nice start for Chris Paul over in Lob city. Just glad to have the NBA back.
BTW - kudos to Luol Deng. DRose played a very efficient game and he abused DFish (shocking, I know) for the game winner…but it was Deng (and missed Laker free throws) that kept the Bulls in it late in the game. He rarely gets the credit he deserves from Bulls fans, so Luol, hat tip to you.
Rip looked pretty damn good in the Chicago lineup yesterday. I was most impressed with his ability to pass the ball so effectively in a system he has been in for under a week…he and Rose also seemed to be on the same page multiple times in transition. This could be a very good sign of things to come for the Bulls. Time will tell.
(by the way…the season creeps ever closer…..)
I love me some Derrick Rose, but This pretty much. The Heat have shut down Derrick. Putting LeBron on him at the end of the game was the check mate. LeBron has too much height and athleticism for the shorter Rose to handle. He’s also the best player in basketball.
The Bulls just don’t have enough to compensate for when Rose plays poorly. And the Heat? Ronnie Brewer was busy making DWade call him his daddy, but it didn’t matter, because he has LeBron and Bosh on his team. (kudos to Mike Miller who FINALLY showed signs of life) It pains me greatly to admit that this super team experience is working already. And this is just year one. Scary prospect for NBA fans outside of Miami.
Yes, Derrick Rose is great and had two really great “HOLY SHIT” moments during the game tonight, but sadly, one man can not beat the big three.

Atlanta shot the shit out of the ball. Not sure that lasts. Although, the Bulls continue to start slowly. Got a series on our hands now.

- Ellis Carver, “The Hunt,” The Wire
Though it’s a television program, we nonetheless feel The Wire is literary enough to quote on occasion in this space.
I reblog this for two reasons. 1. I went to game 1 of this series at the UC as a 16 year old. 2. This segment is from Jordan to the Max. Awesome Jordan film that was on imax after he retired the second time. Worth a watch if you haven’t seen it —- pretty damn awesome.
Also, that series was epic.
